Biography

B.A. in Chemistry and Mathematics, 2019, Simpson College, Indianola, IA

I grew up in Newton, IA and for my undergraduate degree I went to Simpson College in Indianola, IA. During my undergraduate career I was involved in a variety of research opportunities, one being a REU at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where I synthesized metal-organic frameworks. At Simpson I had the opportunity to be a Supplemental Instructor leader for General Chemistry where I fell in love with helping students learn chemistry concepts. My passion for helping students learn chemistry led me to become interested in Chemistry Education Research, where our goal is to better understand and improve how chemistry is both taught and learned. After graduate school my hope is to become a professor of chemistry at a primarily undergraduate institution. In my free time I enjoy lifting weights, going fishing with my dad, snuggling with my cats, and hiking.
