M.S., Purdue University (2019)

B.S., Western Michigan University (2016)

Dr. Wright (she/her) is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar with the Department of Chemistry and Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Iowa. She works with the HHMI Inclusive Excellence 3 project. Casey began studying STEM higher education at Western Michigan University, where she earned a B.S. in Biochemistry and studied undergraduate student learning in the organic chemistry laboratory and the science identity development of racially and ethnically marginalized STEM-SBE Ph.D. students. Her involvement in these projects inspired her to pursue graduate work in chemical education, where she studied science identity and science discourse in interaction and then the institutional structure of STEM higher education. Her dissertation research examined how the STEM higher education institution organizes the experiences of parenting women in STEM doctoral programs.

Most recently, Casey spent a year as a Post Graduate Research Fellow at Western Michigan University as the Research Director for the Accelerating Systemic Change Network, where she facilitated working groups of change practitioners and researchers to advance systemic change in areas such as aligning teaching evaluation and financial decision-making with inclusive teaching practices. In her work at Iowa, she is excited to bring her expertise in critical theoretical perspectives to examine systemic sources of inequality that shape student experiences in introductory STEM coursework. She aims to bring these perspectives to study organizational change that aims to create more inclusive and accessible STEM education experiences for learners. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her partner Ryan, and her cat, Mittens. Casey also enjoys reading, baking, sewing, and dancing ballet.
